Divide bearded Irises
After your bearded Irises have
finished flowering, dig them up, divide them and replant them again. Use a
sharp knife and cut up the roots into 3-5 in pieces with leaves,
which have been cut to half size at one end. Plant into compost
enriched soil.

for alkaline.
If one feeds the alkaline soil with a special feed the Hydrangea will turn
blue.
