Firethorn ( Pyracantha )
Hardy evergreen, spiny branches
white hawthorn like flowers in spring followed by orange ( red, yellow ) berries in late summer. Berries last trough winter.
Attracts wildlife , blackbirds nest in it and eat berries in winter.
height : 8-10 feet, spread :10 feet or more

Christmas rose  
( Helleborus niger )

Thrives in shade or semi shade in moist soil. The first flower to bloom producing beautiful white blossoms. 
There are approx. 20 different species, some deciduous and some evergreen. Once planted helleborus do not like to be disturbed.

Male and female species grown together produce bright colored berries which last throughout the winter.

Evergreen shrub, glossy light green leaves.
Sweet scented orange-like flowers from April until the autumn.
Looks fantastic in front of a dark  green hedge.

Camellia ( Theaceae )
One of the most popular evergreen shrubs with glossy leaves 
and beautiful blooms in late winter or early spring. They need 
a sheltered position.  There are about 80 species available

Evergreen shrub, leaves deep green

One of the first flowers to bloom.  Once established snowdrops will 
seed themselves. They look beautiful planted in woodland and grow best in 
shade in well drained soil.
